okay I’m speechless.
This is the dress I didn’t know was so important to wear up until now. The dress itself motivated me to go all out! It’s mesmerizing and sob-inducing gorgeous. I cried when I first saw it. First, let me tell you the research I put in my outfit.
1) I wanted to wear it the proper way so I bought a hoop skirt petticoat and hemmed it by hand which took three weeks to match to the dress’s length.
2) I looked for a month and a half for the proper shoes that fit the 1880’s, the setting of the play. I bought ivory lace kitten heels on Amazon for this, and I find that 1950’s dance shoes very closely mimic the similar style of the 1881 theatre shoes.
3)I searched for reference photos of the necklace Christine wears in PotO during “Masquerade” which I replicated to the best of my ability with a gold ruby ring.
4) I spent hours practicing my hair two weeks in advance to mimic Christine Daaé’s(Emmy Rossum) “Phantom of the Opera” 2004 “Think of Me” hairstyle, getting the star hairpins to complete the look.
5) I bought the replica “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” earrings from the original broadway on Etsy.
6) I also tried imitating the makeup in the “Think of Me” scene worn by Emmy Rossum, but I cried so much it came off mostly.
7) This was not planned, but the gloves I wore mimicked Christine Daae’s “Masquerade” gloves in the 2004 movie as well.
8) Neither was this planned, but I found an 1880’s style jacquard jacket at a shop in New Orleans, where I was surprised with tickets!! So you cannot see the full bodice. But please look at my other review for reference. The jacket happened to match perfectly with the dress’s fabric.
💕 🎭 STORYTIME!! After the show, we went to go and get the merchandise and several people stopped me playfully thinking that I had been Christine or that I was on stage as well. A man dress similarly to the Phantom came up to me and said my outfit was peak, and he also sang a line: “Brava, brava, Bravissima.” which completely made my day. Just because of the dress!! I had several people ask where I got the dress from and after we bought the souvenirs, Isaiah Bailey came out to greet his family, which came as a shock for me because I had not expected to meet the cast. Or part of them for that matter! 🤩 I waited patiently, and then he came up to me and greeted me and also commented on my outfit! He gave me a hug and then I started sobbing, and he gave me one more 😭
Now in regards to Christine… Lol, no pun intended. We had headed outside afterwards, to go and get ready to go home when Jordan Lee Gilbert came out from under her umbrella pointing at me, and she asked me how in the world I had gotten my outfit so accurate. She also suggested I get out of the rain since it was raining at the time and asked if I wanted a picture. I was surprised that she initiated the conversation! I also got two hugs from her, which was amazing. 🥲 All in all, I’m very glad I got this dress and it helped to make my entire day and my 14-year-old childhood dream come true— 😭 so thank you LaceMade!!! Without you I don’t know what I would do. 😭 🙏 🤗 💕
